Welcome to Debra Savage Ministries, "Caring for the Caregivers." I am so happy you stopped by to visit my website.
This ministry has been birthed through my personal experience as a caregiver for over 38 years.
Both of my children were born with sickle cell disease. My oldest son had a massive stroke at the age of 2 years old. He would spend the next 73 in the hospital, 40 of those days in ICU. I was 24 years old when this life changing event occurred.
During this time I was pregnant with my second son. After the stroke my son suffered brain damage, lost his eyesight, ability to walk or talk, and would remain in a wheelchair for the next 18 year and 11 months, until he went on to be with the Lord.
I took him in the ER walking on Fathers Day, June 16th, 1985, and brought him home in a wheelchair on August 29, 1985. My daily routine as a caregiver consisted of suctioning his trach, feeding him through a g-tube, turning him, changing him, and taking care of him as an infant.
Not only was I taking care of my oldest son, but I was expecting a second child. After giving birth to my second son, I found out 6 weeks later, that he too had this debilitating disease. As if the sicknessess of my children were not enough-I also was going through a divorce. I am a domestic abuse survivor.
Led by the Spirit of the Lord, I joined Temple of Deliverance Church of God in Christ in October of 1985. In 1996, I answered the call of God into ministry under the late Bishop G.E. Patterson. I worked diligently in the church in spite of the many challenges that I faced. In 2004, I became apart of the prayer ministry under the leadership of Pastoral Assistant-Mother DeOla Welles-Johnson. I also served in the church as an evangelist, greeters president, church announcer and radio personality. I never allowed anything that the enemy meant to destroy me, stop me. I have served in the Lord's church for over three decades. Eight of those years were spent serving at Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church, under Reverend Dr. J. Lawrence Turner. I am presently a member of Citadel of Deliverance Church of God in Christ under, Bishop Linwood Elijah Dillard. I continue to serve as an evangelist, prayer intercessor, birth month president and member of the Women's department. I now believe that my mission in the church is to P.E.E. -(Pray, Empower, and Encourage) caregivers everywhere. The caregivers ministry is a very overlooked ministry. My mandate is to change that perspective.
Join me and connect with me as I offer HOPE, COMFORT & STRENGTH for caregivers in the Body of Christ.
